See this? You can just make out Mt Rainier in the distance. It is a very tall mountain with glaciers and I have hiked and skied it many times. But that is not what I want to say. Two days ago I went to this spot and strode (is that a word?) into the water with my water shoes, bathing suit, earplugs and cap and I swam way out the the buoy and then I just stayed in the deep and beautiful water for a while. I haven't swum since March. It was sheer heaven, warm in spots, cold in spots.

And the water held me and touched me all over. I hope I never take swimming for granted again. it is the most liberating and profound experience. As I said to myself, it's better than sex or chocolate cake. We are formed in water inside our mothers. Every time I step into deep water, I'm home.

A beautiful post. Although I am a swimmer from the days of my childhood in Northern California, it's only in my dreams that I find myself swimming now. I do savor every bath and shower I take because I love water. You reminded me how good it feels to swim in salt water or in lakes. The last time I swam in a lake I wore cut-off Levis and a bathing suit top. That was years ago in the 1980s. The last time I swam in the ocean was in San Diego in the summer of 1973, wearing cut-off Levis and a bathing suit top. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, I swam laps regularly in an indoor pool while wearing a leotard. I'm going to think about creating some variation on the Levis and bathing suit top again. You've got me thinking about the possibility of swimming in Lake Whatcom or the Salish Sea. Thank you!

Oh do go swimming. During the covid time, I have ached to swim. Getting a massage is nice, being hugged is lovely but swimming...being held and rocked by the water, swallowing a bit of the lake, imagining the fish and water plants beneath me. The motion of swimming, stroking and kicking and gliding through the surface. I could go on. It has turned cold again here but I think we're headed for another warm week. I'll be there, anxiously waiting for the feel of the water on my skin. Ahhhhh.

I love swimming but really only in lakes or rivers or the sea, not pools. Bering carried on this line between water and sky is beyond words.
